Student Training

Student training at Skydive Kentucky is produced with one goal in mind, to help you earn your USPA A License. All unlicensed skydivers are required to complete the entire student training program before they skydive with other jumpers. It takes a minimum of 25 jumps to obtain your license. Make your reservations early, classes are limited. Classes are held regardless of the weather.

Progression for training methods
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Staticline Tandem/AFF

Practice Rip Cord Pulls (3 jumps)

First Free Fall

5 second delay - stable, relaxed.

10 second delays - 4-90° turns (2 jumps)

15 second delays -  2-180° and 2-360° turns, assisted packing (2 jumps)

30 second delays - back-loop, front-loop, barrel roll (2 jumps)

45 second delays - Diving Exits, Tracking (3 jumps)

Step 1 - Tandem Introductory Skydive

Step 2 - Tandem Assisted A/C, freefall and canopy maneuvers.

Step 3 - Tandem Un-assisted A/C, freefall and canopy maneuvers and  procedures.

Step 4 - AFF Ground School and Tandem Confidence Jump

Step 5 - AFF Leg awareness and control modes; heading maintenance; hover control; unassisted solo pull.

Step 6 - AFF 360° turns (one before each dock); forward movement and docking without assistance; control of all three axes (pitch, roll, and yaw); wave off before pull.

Step 7 -AFF Brief pilot with assistance; spotting (direct to pilot); perform a stable, poised exit without assistance; solo, no contact exit; sub-terminal heading control; two back-loops; tracking; wave off before pull; land within 25 meters of center of the landing area; perform correct approach and landing techniques.

Step 8 - AFF Demonstrate ability to inspect, pack, don, and adjust equipment correctly; demonstrate ability to inspect and pack main canopy; explain and demonstrate knowledge or Relative Work (flying relative to another jumper) safety procedures (both in freefall and under canopy), including wave off prior to pull; brief pilot without assistance; spot correctly without assistance; self-check equipment; diving exit with no contact – maintain or recover control; intentional front loop; chain of controlled maneuvers – right turn, left turn, back-loop, barrel roll may also be used; tracking as altitude permits; wave off prior to pull; land within 25 meters of center of the landing area; demonstrate safe canopy control procedures.

Step 9 - Solo jumps from 5,500 and 3,500 feet.

Prepare for 'A' license check dive.
