I've never jumped before. What kind of a jump can I do?

  • Tandem Jumping, You and one of your tandem instructors jump out, free fall, and land together under the same parachute system. Training only takes about ten to fifteen minutes. (tandem training is specific to making a skydive in tandem with one of our instructors. It is not a substitute for a Static line or accelerated first jump course which are MUCH more comprehensive and structured to me the for the first time solo jumper). To schedule your tandem jump call 270-723-3587 for an appointment. Walk-ons are welcome, but we highly recommend you call in advance. More Tandem Information.
  • Static line, You jump by yourself from 3,200 feet. The opening of the parachute is initiated by a Static line, which is attached to the airplane. April Thur October we conduct a Static line first jump courses every Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9:30 am (eastern time). No appointment is required for the Static line first jump course April Thur October. November Thur March, call 270 723 3587 to schedule an appointment for your course. More Static line Information.
  • Accelerated Free fall (AFF), You accumulate 120 seconds of free fall time utilizing Tandem jumps and then advance to AFF. AFF jumps exit from 12,000 feet and are accompanied by an AFF Instructor who goes alongside you in free fall. If you want to be on the FAST TRACK to becoming a skydiver and want personal one-on-one training this is what you're looking for. AFF is by appointment only, call 270-723-3587 to schedule your jump! More AFF Information.

Who Packs the Parachute?

  • Well, there are two answers here. One for your main parachute and one for your reserve parachute. When you make your jump you will be wearing both installed in one harness and container system. required by the FAA.
  • The main parachute which is the one you intend to land. Per Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR'S), Parts 105.43 & 105.45: The main parachute may be packed by either: 1) a certificated parachute rigger, 2) a non-certificated person packing under the direct supervision of a certificated parachute rigger, or 3) the person making the next jump with that parachute.
  • Also it follows that in the case of a tandem parachute system (two people, instructor and student under same parachute) the main parachute my only be packed the parachutist-in-command making the next jump with that parachute or a certificated parachute rigger.
  • The other parachute is called the reserve parachute (the back-up parachute). Per Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR'S), Parts 105.43 & 105.45: The only person who can legally pack it is an FAA-certificated parachute rigger.
  • Read the actual regulation from the Federal Aviation Administration, D.O.T. website and scroll down to sections 105.43 and 105.4.

What should I wear?

  • Dress comfortable for the current weather.
  • Shorts and T-shirt are fine for hot days. For cooler weather, long pants and sleeves.
  • For weather 50 degrees and less, bring your gloves (leather is preferable).
  • Tennis shoes are recommended for tandem skydives. We have jumpsuits and goggles for you to use during your jump.
  • If you dress as if you were going to be out of doors, say a fishing or camping trip you should be fine.
  • Things to avoid!....
    • Short shorts, once we put you in the harness you may find that there isn't enough material in your crotch to keep you covered.
    • Pants that are baggy in the crotch. All that material bunches up and it's not comfortable.
    • Shirts that cover your shoulders. In hot weather friction burns can happen in your shoulder near your arm pit.
    • Ladies, some tops may not keep you contained.
    • Body piercings. This is the day to leave them home. Especially those located in the crotch or chest. It has happened that the leg straps yanked on them. Ouch!...

I am a heavy person, is that OK?

  • Tandem – We have a weight restriction for anyone weighing more than 210 pounds. We have a weight limit of 230 pounds. We let the tandem instructors take persons over 210 pounds at their digression up to 230 pounds. We have weigh scales at the registration counter and we use them. Their final answer depends on several factors; the current weather conditions, your size and shape, your combined weight, etc. While a smaller instructor might allow for a heavier student, the smaller tandem must be able to manage the size and shape of the student while moving about in the airplane, falling through the sky, and landing under canopy. Keep in mind that heavier people tend to fall faster and land harder. If you are over 210 pounds, or near this weight and not tall for your weight the best thing to do is to call us.
  • Static line and Accelerated Free Fall Harness Hold - You may weigh no more than a maximum weight of 230 lbs. (180 lbs. for average women) is strictly enforced. These limitations are placed on the parachute equipment by the Federal Aviation Administration as the maximum safe exit weights.
  • Read more details about weight restrictions, the law, and the manufactures imposed limitations on skydiving gear.

  • We may not take you if your weight exceeds 210 pounds, your weight is not in proportion to your weight, or you are in poor health.
  • We reserve the right not to let you jump, if we feel that it is not safe for you to do so.

What if the weather is bad?

  • First, it may seem obvious but, if you aren't at the parachute center it won't be possible for you to jump!
  • Frequently in our area the weather where you are may not be good but just a few miles away nice day. Or, in just a short time it can change drastically.
  • Call us just before you get into your car to come out to the parachute center. We will walk outside, look up, and inform you at that time if the weather is not suitable for you to jump that day.
  • Please take notice that if the weather is not suitable for jumping, Static line and AFF first jump ground school will be conducted rain or shine!
  • In addition, bad weather days are great for learning how to pack! In fact, we feel that there is a lot that of experience that the student skydiver can gain just being at the drop zone.
  • Visit our weather page for more information.

What customers say about Skydive Kentucky
"WOW- First tandem skydive in my 58 years. Did it with my 18 yr old daughter for her birthday. We were both treated with respect and a calm, caring manner from all the staff. Quick instruction, but plenty of time to have anything repeated to make sure you understand. Jim was our instructor and tandem jump master and I can't say enough about how much he made the experience truly amazing and fun. I'd recommend him and the facility to anyone. Go skydive - it's FUN!"
